Prefix and settings

Each server sets its own prefix. Settings is the map.

You know the prefix and where to see the rest of the config.

Examples on this site start with a comma. Your server can use a different prefix. Change it with `,prefix` or in Basics if you own the server.

Before you start

  • You can manage the server, or you own it.

Set it up

  1. Show the prefix. Ask near what this server uses. Examples in these docs start with a comma so they stay readable.

  2. Change it. Pick a short prefix people will not type by accident. After you change it, old examples still show a comma on this site. Type your prefix in Discord.

  3. Open settings. Settings lists prefix, joining, filter, and logs first, then extra roles. The Discord owner can open the same fields on the dashboard.

Do not

  • Do not tell members the site slogan is the prefix. The prefix is whatever this server set.

Troubleshooting

  • If a command looks unknown, you are still typing the old prefix.
  • If two bots share a prefix, change one of them.

Verify it works

  • Change to a test prefix, run ping, then set it back.
